Blogs and cats

Really Magazine never has a problem admitting ignorance. Here’s one technological phenomenon about which we have absolutely no clue.

This is currently perplexing us gravely :

Why, given the first opportunity of utilising a blog space, do the vast majority of bloggers immediately upload a picture of their cat ?

It’s serious question which we’d be grateful to any readers if they can explain. What is the link between cats and blogs ?

To underline the syndrome, if you met the very same sample blogger for the first time on the street, would they immediately whip out their wallet and show you a picture of their cat ?

Exactly.

We have nothing whatever against cats. We like cats. Cats are a wonder of nature and should be afforded every respect.

It’s just that we have seen pictures of them before.

Should we feel in need of looking at some pictures of cats, there are numerous excellent www sites which will fulfill our requirement in its entirety - for free.

In an effort to get to the bottom of this conundrum, we thought that maybe if we tried to participate in our own way, we may, by attempting to synchronise with the zeitgeist so to speak, come to understand a little more about the phenomenon.

But we won't tackle it directly - by posting a picture of a cat - we'd like to come at the problem side-on, pounce on it unawares if you like . . .

And so, here’s some sample postings which we hope will enlighten us, and may even help to brighten the day ( or night ) of our readers . . .

Reader's comments

Donna writes : I think Leonardo Da Vinci said it best, "The smallest feline is a masterpiece." Apparently all bloggers with cats think this is true, therefore it's only natural for them to post a picture of their beloved feline.

Anonymous writes : I think that the phenomenon of first-time-blog-cat-photo-posting is an attempt to relieve writers block by posting the first thing that grabs ones attention. In these cases their cat desperately walking across their owners keyboard in a vain effort to spare them the evils of blogging.
